Astronomy is the study of the sun, moon, stars, planets, galaxies and other non-Earthly bodies and phenomena.

The first preserved written documents about ancient astronomy are from Ancient Greek philosophy.

Most of the constellations of the northern hemisphere derive from Greek astronomy, as are the names of many stars, asteroids and planets; most planets names are actually derived from the Gods of Olympus.

Some of the famous Greek Astronomers being : Anaxagoras, who figured out what caused eclipses; Aristarchus, who discovered that the Earth went around the sun; and Thales who professed that the earth was round.
