Meteora monasteries – the wonder of Greece.
Rising from the plains of Thessaly, the impressive rocks of Meteora are one of the most amazing places in Greece.
Many centuries ago, on these gigantic rocks with the breathtaking landscape reaching heights of more than 600 meters, one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries was formed.
Today only six monasteries are active with a small number of monks or nuns who reside on Meteora.
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989 and an official holy place for Greece since 1995.
A visit to Meteora on the mainland of Greece offers a unique perspective of nature’s splendour in conjunction with history, architecture, and man’s perpetual desire to connect with the Divine.
